Congratulations to Mālama Mānoa’s Junior Director Jess Braden Cruz for winning 1st Place at the Daniel K. Inouye Institute’s Future Filmmakers Showcase at the Hawai’i International Film Festival, along with his classmates from ‘Iolani School, Alex Awaya and Kaitlyn Chang. The short film, entitled, “Meanwhile, In Paradise,” tells the story of, “An elderly Japanese American man reflecting upon his childhood during wartime Hawai’i in this film about anti-Asian prejudice and human connection.”
